How to Choose a PP Spunbond Nonwoven Roll: GSM, Width & MOQ Explained

2026.09.12 HuaYue Fabric

The PP spunbond nonwoven roll is the most requested product in our export enquiries: shopping bags, table covers, medical and hygiene textiles, furniture lining and packaging all start from this one base material. It looks simple, but a single wrong parameter can waste an entire order — too light and the fabric tears, wrong width and it jams on your converting line, and without locked color you get shade variation between batches. This guide walks through the five points where things go wrong most often, based on real export enquiries.

1. GSM: Match the Number to the Job

GSM (grams per square metre) drives strength, hand-feel and price, so it is the first decision to make. Common pairings: 15-25 gsm for medical caps, masks and hygiene lining where lightness and breathability matter; 30-50 gsm for shopping bags, table covers and garment interlining — the best balance of strength and cost, and our highest-volume range; 50-80 gsm for sofa and mattress lining where a fuller, opaque feel is needed; 100-200 gsm for heavy-duty packaging and industrial uses. If you are unsure, tell the factory what the fabric will be used for and let them recommend a gsm with a physical sample — far more reliable than guessing a number on a quotation.

2. Width & Slitting: Work Backwards from Your Line

Width is not "the wider the better" — it has to match how your converting line cuts the fabric. Our standard width goes up to 3.2 m and can be slit into narrow rolls, down to 10 mm, for products such as mask ear-loop material slit from a wide mother roll. Before ordering, be clear about three things: your machine in-feed width, how many slits you need per roll, and your maximum roll weight for easy handling. Give those numbers to the factory and the roll diameter and length can be customized to your line.

3. Color: Why Dope-Dyed Beats Surface Printing

For colored rolls there are two routes: mixing masterbatch into the polymer melt before spinning (dope-dyed), or printing the finished fabric. Dope-dyed color is locked inside the fiber — it does not fade or rub off, batch-to-batch shading is controlled (we match Pantone cards with ΔE ≤ 1.5), and downstream processing such as ultrasonic welding is unaffected. Printing is the right choice when you need patterns. Note that custom colors carry an MOQ, while our 12 stock colors can be ordered in smaller quantities.

4. MOQ & Lead Time: Know the Numbers Before You Enquire

Standard stock colors start from 0.5 ton and custom colors from 1 ton; special specs are negotiable. Lead time is typically 7-10 days after deposit for stock colors in standard specs, and 10-15 days for custom colors or GRS recycled material, plus 3-5 days in peak season. When enquiring, state your gsm, width, color and monthly volume up front — the factory can immediately tell whether it is a stock run or a custom production, and quote much faster.

5. Certification: GRS Recycled Material Opens EU/US Doors

More and more EU and US brands require recycled content in packaging and textiles, which makes GRS (Global Recycled Standard) certification a hard filter in supplier selection. We supply GRS-certified recycled polypropylene (RPP) spunbond rolls with Transaction Certificates, so your brand-side audits and compliance reviews go smoothly. ISO 9001 and BSCI audit reports are also available on request before you place an order.

Pre-order checklist: gsm ±3 with a test report / width and number of slits / max roll weight / color code and ΔE tolerance / whether you need a GRS transaction certificate — confirm these five and your order will not go wrong.

Q1: What is the MOQ for PP spunbond nonwoven rolls?

Our 12 stock colors start from 0.5 ton and custom colors from 1 ton; special specifications are negotiable. Small sample rolls are available for the approval stage, so you can confirm hand-feel and GSM before committing to bulk.

Q2: What is the maximum width? Can rolls be slit?

Standard width goes up to 3.2 m and can be slit into narrow rolls down to 10 mm — for example, mask ear-loop material is slit from a wide mother roll. Tell us your machine in-feed width, number of slits and maximum roll weight, and we will cut roll diameter and length to match your line.

Q3: How do custom colors differ from stock colors?

There are 12 stock colors available in smaller quantities. Custom colors are dope-dyed to your Pantone code with ΔE ≤ 1.5 and start from about 1 ton. Once the recipe is locked, it is reused on every repeat order, keeping batch colour consistent.

Q4: What is the typical lead time?

Stock colors in standard specs ship 7-10 days after deposit; custom colors or GRS recycled material take 10-15 days, plus 3-5 days in peak season. State your gsm, width, colour and monthly volume when enquiring — the factory can tell immediately whether it is a stock run or custom production and quote faster.
