80gsm is the sweet spot for bags, furniture lining and packaging: heavy enough to hold a seam and print, light enough to keep cost per square metre down. Here is what to specify before you ask for a price.

GSM is weight per square metre, and it decides strength, opacity and cost together.
Grammage is the single number that drives most of the specification. At 80gsm a PP spunbond roll is roughly twice the weight of a 40gsm hygiene grade, so it is opaque, holds a stitched seam and takes screen or gravure print without strike-through. Going below about 60gsm for a shopping bag usually means the handle area fails first; going above 100gsm adds stiffness and cost you may not need.
We hold the band to ±3% with in-line GSM monitoring, then verify it in the lab. Ask for the batch test report if your own QC needs the number on paper.
What we can fix at the order stage.
| Item | Typical specification | Note |
|---|---|---|
| GSM | 80 gsm | Custom 80-90 band possible |
| Tensile (MD/CD) | Per batch test report | Depends on polymer and bonding |
| Elongation | Per batch test report | MD / CD differ |
| Max width | 3.2 m mother roll | Slit to your finished width |
| Core | 76 mm (3 inch) | Other cores on request |
| Colour | 12 stock shades | Pantone dope-dye ΔE≤1.5, MOQ 1 t |
| Packing | Wrapped, palletised or bagged | Export packing to your spec |
The applications where buyers most often specify this band.
| Application | Why 80gsm works | Go heavier when |
|---|---|---|
| Shopping / carrier bags | Holds a seam and print at retail weight | Load rating above ~8 kg |
| Furniture and bedding lining | Opaque, so foam does not show through | Heat bonding above 100 °C |
| Packaging and dust covers | Dust and scratch protection without bulk | Puncture risk from sharp parts |
| Table covers and event textiles | Drapes well, printable | Reusable heavy-duty use |
| Agriculture (with UV masterbatch) | Weed mat and crop cover base | Long outdoor exposure |
Three bands that buyers mix up most often.
| Property | 60gsm | 80gsm | 100gsm |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hand-feel | Light, flexible | Balanced | Firmer, more body |
| Opacity | Semi | Opaque | Fully opaque |
| Typical use | Light bags, interlining | Bags, furniture, packaging | Heavy packaging, weed mat base |

No fixed price list — here is what moves your number.
Spunbond is quoted per tonne, not per roll, because you are buying polymer weight. Four variables decide the figure: GSM and width (heavier and wider runs consume more polymer and slow the line), colour route (stock shade vs dope-dyed Pantone), virgin vs GRS-certified recycled feedstock, and order volume. Send GSM, width, colour, application and monthly volume and you get a formal quotation within 24 hours.
Standard stock in stock shades ships in 7-10 days after deposit; custom Pantone or GRS material 10-15 days. Free A4 swatches are available for hand-feel approval.
What buyers ask before ordering.
Mostly shopping and carrier bags, furniture and bedding lining, packaging, table covers and, with a UV masterbatch, agricultural cover. It is the most common single band we ship.
Strength depends on polymer grade and bonding, so we state it per batch test report rather than a marketing number. Ask for the report with your sample and check MD and CD separately.
0.5 tonne for standard stock in stock shades; 1 tonne for custom dope-dyed colour. Stock ships 7-10 days after deposit, custom colour 10-15 days.
Yes — dope-dyed, ΔE≤1.5. Send the Pantone TCX/TPX code and we confirm feasibility before the run.
A free A4 swatch is available for hand-feel and GSM check; custom width or colour samples take 5-7 days.
